A seasoned trial attorney practicing for more than twenty-seven (27) years, Brett has first chair trial experience in state and federal courts, including trying cases through jury verdict.
While Brett works with Mainsail Lawyers on a wide range of business and civil litigation matters, he leads our Employment Practice Group.
In his employment law practice, Brett represents employers around the country in trade secret, unfair competition, competitive hiring, and non-compete disputes, and he routinely represents employers in the full range of employment matters, including Equal Employment Opportunity, discrimination, and retaliation cases, as well as OSHA investigations and contests. Brett also regularly assists clients defending against access claims under the Americans with Disabilities Act, as well Fair Housing Administration and Housing and Urban Development investigations.
In addition to his trial practice, Brett is a trusted advisor who regularly counsels employer clients on the full spectrum of laws and regulations related to employment actions and decisions regarding EEO matters, wage and hour, FMLA and other protected leave, drug and alcohol testing, disability, and retaliation. He also regularly reviews and drafts executive employment contracts, employee handbooks, and non-compete, non-solicitation, and confidentiality agreements.
Focusing on our clients’ ever-changing business needs and circumstances, Brett enjoys conducting training sessions for managers and supervisors to develop in them strong management fundamentals to improve employee morale and productivity, accomplish management objectives and ensure legal compliance. Brett is also regularly retained to serve as a neutral third-party investigator following harassment and discrimination complaints.
Brett has also been retained on a significant number of occasions to serve as a hearing officer or student/staff advisor in Title IX matters at several universities.
An AV-rated attorney through Martindale-Hubbell, Brett is a member of the Alabama and Georgia State Bars. He is admitted to practice before the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, all state and federal district courts in Alabama and Georgia.
Outside of work, Brett spends his time with his family and participates in triathlons, mountain bike races and ultramarathons.
